Our next SSN study day will be held at The Holburne Museum, Bath, on Tuesday 23 May 2017.
The Holburne Museum houses a collection of fine and decorative art, silver, porcelain, miniature paintings, maiolica, Renaissance bronzes, and masterpieces of British and Continental European painting.
This year sees The Holburne Museum host the UK’s first exhibition devoted to the Bruegel dynasty, revealing the originality and diversity of Antwerp’s famous artistic dynasty across four generations.
A key work in the exhibition will be ‘Wedding Dance in the Open Air’, which, following recent conservation work and technical examination, was firmly attributed to the hand of Pieter Brueghel the Younger. This new discovery, along with existing paintings in the Holburne’s collection, makes the museum the primary collection of Pieter Brueghel the Younger’s work in the UK.
This study day will include an overview of the exceptional permanent collection as well as a tour of the exhibition Bruegel: Defining a Dynasty with curators Jennifer Scott and Amy Orrock. We will conclude the day with a visit to the Victoria Art Gallery.
The programme for the day can be found here.
