Southampton Art Gallery Curators Symposium

11 October 2019

Southampton City Art Gallery is holding a symposium to celebrate the past 80 years of its history. Led by the gallery’s current curator Clare Mitchell and former curators Liz Goodall, Les Buckingham and Tim Craven, the panel will explore the changing role of a curator, the history of their collection, its impact upon the art world and the future.

Opened in 1939, Southampton City Art Gallery offers the opportunity to enjoy exhibitions ranging from painting, sculpture and drawing, to photography and film, as well as permanent and changing collections and displays. Internationally renowned for its permanent collection, the gallery features around 3,700 works that span eight centuries and tell the story of western art from the Renaissance to the present day.

Symposium tickets: £20 (£15 concession including artists and arts professionals). A light lunch and tour of the gallery’s art stores and conservation studios will be included.
