Next SSN study day at Ferens Art Gallery, Hull

Our next SSN study day will be held on Thursday 9 March at the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull. It will provide an exciting opportunity to explore the gallery following its major refurbishment programme and to see the redisplayed permanent collection.

The programme for the day can be found here.

A key highlight will be the in-focus exhibition ‘Pietro Lorenzetti: Siena to Hull, A Masterpiece Revealed’ focused on Pietro Lorenzetti’s gold-ground panel painting - 'Christ between Saints Paul and Peter' (c.1320). The Ferens Art Gallery acquired the rare Sienese panel in 2013 and it has subsequently undergone a period of scientific study and conservation treatment at the National Gallery.

We will have the chance to hear from National Gallery Curatorial Trainee Lucy West, who has worked on the Lorenzetti project, as well as researching the religious Old Master works in the Ferens’ permanent collection.

As part of Hull City Council’s cultural capital programme of over £100m, and in preparation for Hull’s term as UK City of Culture 2017, Ferens Art Gallery closed in September 2015 to allow a £5m renovation project to take place. The gallery reopens on 13 January 2017 and will play a central role in the delivery of the year’s cultural programme.

To book a place, and to request a travel bursary, please email ssn@ng-london.org.uk by 24 February 2017.
